Red petals and white stones

When I first arrived and didn't know exactly where my legs were taking me on my walks, this sculpture made good use as a marker. The city gardeners planted a nice batch of red . . . red . . . flowers I can't name, earlier this month. They contrast quite beautifully.

Going for a walk now to learn the name of this piece, lest I turn into a total boor.

Frequented Direction

Join me, as I stroll down this favorite path of mine!

Unfortunately, I find writing about my time spent slightly, possibly, just a tad bit cumbersome. If my work ethic could be projected to the public and personified, it would probably resemble a tan, old man, lounging in trunks on some kids patio chair, musing over his toes while wiggling them under the sun. Thus, this, here, will be more of a "picture blog," I guess. Apologies.

I will, however, leave comments or paste something in these posts to keep everything from looking so rudely empty.

Note: stumbling upon this walkway my second week here was very exciting. I've frequently returned to it since.

And yes, there's graffiti everywhere.

I like the feel of the old stones, especially when they lead me to a salvaged grove and rock that keep standing, despite the surrounding bustle of the city.

Preferable when not recently mowed.

Worker-Student Protesting

From 06 May 2011: Didn't take long to encounter the political spirit of Europe.

Colorful clothing and smells of cannabis filled my senses as I walked along to the sound of murmuring student voices and the low bass of reggae.

Things are becoming very green

Strolling along the stone pathway to Castello, Brescia's biggest attraction, and enjoying the view. Sorry about the hasty panning.

Re-equipped: Hello from Brescia!

Five weeks and four days in, I finally have the means to share a taste of Brescia with you: I've been reunited with Samsung's Captivate and plan to fully take advantage of it as quickly as possible lest it parts from me again.

Took a little stroll today to start off this Tour de Brescia with a glimpse of the east side of Piazza Paolo VI (Piazza del Duomo), the biggest square I've found so far.

The photos below are dominated by the grand Duomo Nuovo, (New Cathedral) and Duomo Vecchio (Old Cathedral). The Duomo Nuovo's exterior is constructed of gorgeous botticino marble. Although I can't differentiate architectural styles (yet), this church incorporates both Late Baroque and Neoclassical styling because of it's lengthy construction period (1604-1825). The size and detailing of it's facade really take your breath away.

The Romanesque Duomo Vecchio actually looks a bit puny next to it's grandiose predecessor. Nonetheless, it's quite old (11th century) and co-cathedral of Brescia.

I plan to actually enter the churches soon--I'm sure their interiors will be nothing less than beautiful.

These first few streets are right outside the house. I frequent them daily either to pick up the girls from school or at my leisure.

On the way to the square. A side glimpse of the duomos.

The round and medieval Duomo Vecchio.

School boys chilling at the fountain.

All in all, my time here so far has been aesthetically enriching in many ways . . .

Today's look: "Italian"--scarf and errythang.Why not, right?
